A striking photo taken at the foot of the erupting Mayon volcano in the Philippines surprised social networking users, who saw the heroes of an ancient legend in the rising ash clouds.
In the ash clouds photographed by photographer Jun Santiago, you can see two silhouettes, which would be heroes of the tragic love story of a girl named Magayon and her lover Panganoron.
According to legend, Magayon decided to escape from his groom to flee with his beloved Panganoron. When the fallen husband learned what had just happened, he faced his new rival as a result of the woman’s torment: Magayon committed suicide. It is said that under the tomb of the beloved, a volcano appeared, which the inhabitants now called Mayon. Precisely in honor of the beloved dead.
The Mayon is one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines and is located in the central part of the country, about 340 km southeast of Manila. It is the largest and most populated region of the country. The volcano is known for its symmetrical and conical shape.
