It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in San José the enigmatic home has 161 rooms, 40 staircases (some of which lead nowhere), 10,000 windows and 2,000 doors !
Built in 1884 and owned by Sarah Winchester – the widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester – the building would be haunted by the ghosts of all those who were killed by Winchester rifles. Today, one of the manor’s employees discovered what is believed to be an unpublished photograph of the Winchester Mystery House before all its extensions were built.
Curiously, it is thought that one of the two women in the image is Mrs. Winchester herself. If confirmed, this would only be her second known photo on the Winchester estate.
