August 19, 2018, a video showing a humanoid robot walking along an alley recently caused a sensation online (people were scared). The video, which has managed to accumulate nearly 8 million views since its publication on Twitter, shows what appears to be a super-impressive prototype and a casual android.

In truth, the video was created using the famous video game and animation engine Unity and although it is not clear who created the sequence that became viral, the android has already appeared in a web series created by director Neill Blomkamp, whose filmography also includes Chappie and District 9. The designer named Maxim Sullivan seems to have been the first to download this video on Twitter, but he doesn’t want to answer any request and doesn’t want to give any information.
The robot model (free downloadable from the Unity awning) was made by Unity’s Swedish demonstration team for the short film “Adam”. You can see below the backstage video of Blomkamp’s series, however it doesn’t seem that he created this specific animation of a robot in an alley.
While companies have made great strides towards the creation of real human robots, this one remains firmly anchored in the field of science fiction…. at least for now.
This article is therefore intended to prove once again that creating – fake- is within everyone’s reach.
