The idea behind the magnificent humanoid pylons on Icelandic soil dates back to 2008, when Landsnet (Electricity Provider in Iceland) organised a design competition in collaboration with the Icelandic Architects Association, calling for the design of towers that blend in with the environment while reducing the impact of electromagnetic fields.

The firm Choi + Shine has submitted a concept for the Pays des Géants: electric towers based on a design in the shape of human characters. The original submission included a male and female tower.

It’s this particular design will be worth to be selected and built. Similarly, in 2010, the project received the Best Unbuilt Award from the Boston Society of Architects.
