The idea behind the magnificent humanoid pylons placed on Icelandic land dates back to 2008, when Landsnet (Iceland’s electricity supplier) organised a design competition in collaboration with the Icelandic Architects’ Association, soliciting the design of towers that blend into the environment while reducing the impact of electromagnetic fields.

The firm Choi + Shine has submitted a concept for the Land of the Giants: electric towers based on a design in the shape of human characters. The original submission included a male and female tower.

It is this rather particular design that will be worth selecting and building. As in 2010, the project received the Best Unbuilt Award from the Boston Society of Architects.
